Long days, big dreams

Another Day in the life of moe nasrul. I write this from my bed with heavy eye lids wanting to close from a full day of running around and meetings.

So far I have been insanely busy and when I mean insanely busy it is really busy. So busy that I can't remember when was the last time I was ever this busy. I mean hey my day just ended at four in the morning.

So what am I doing you might ask? Well for starters I've been trying to start up a series of gigs at a cafe lounge called Laila's at Plaza Kelana Jaya. Basically trying to get a unit music scene coming up and hopefully bring our music scene to the next level. My target is to do two months of acoustic gigs just to get the ball rolling before transitioning fully into electric. Lotta planning and meeting.

If you wanna find out more about, check out www.moenasrul.com/tlp.cfm

Another is that I am working on a few projects where I am to produce two tv shows which would be direct to mobile phones. Can't really disclose much but what I can say is, it's pretty much my debut into the world of producing shows.

Another is of courses managing artists and so far I have one band Kyoto protocol, Sashi C Loco of poetic ammo fame and Iz currently with me. I have also started a brand new company called Talent Harvestw Sdn Bhd to be the vehicle to which I will be promoting these artists.

Further more, I have my usual array of voice overs and tv shows to which I host. Day by day it is. Moving forward in the most amazing of ways.

That's all I so far in my life at this point of time. Exhausted, sleepy and also wanting to tell someone about it, I write this post. A little diary of sorts online... Which is kind of ironic as a diary is supposed to be private but a blog is as private as a parrot being a horse... Or some bad analogy like that.

Oh well til next time, night night.

Here I am a half an hour before going on 8tv Nite Live

So what do I do before I go on the show today? Blog of course :D Why the sudden need to blog? well lets just say, I came across a few blogs made by some good friends of mine Justin Bratton and his girl Sarah Hodgens.

Pretty much for the past few days I was just deeply entertained by their blog and their posts to the point I was even reading all the older posts.

I just loved their style and viewing things from a different perspective and the fact that I know them in real life I enjoyed how much their personality seeped into the text of their blogs. I mean that is like Blog secret number 1... blog with personality. Who wants to read a deadpan book? (I hope I ain't deadpan borin' you right now...er... am I? )

and yeah, reading Justin's blog is like going into the mind of a Howard Stern type character... blatantly honest and at the same time humorously sarcastic. while Sarah is more of a traveller, almost dreamer type of feel.

I gotta learn something from these guys... I wonder what type of personality am I ?

Oh look at the time.. Gotta head on to do my Show on 8TV :D See you all on the Chatbox :)

The Highlights of My Week

Maybe it's waking up at 3:27 in the morning and being fully awake has made me reflect in the dark about all the great things to have happened the past week. So I've decided to do a little list of all the highlights that had happened in my life that is worth mentioning... so definitely there will be no mundane stuff like "OMG! I discovered a new washing detergent that makes my white shirts extra white!", no matter how true it is.

1) Launch of Stylekandi!

This one I got to thank a good friend of mine and a talented musician Gael Oliveres for inviting me to the Press Conference. Not only did I get a glimpse at a website that would revolutionize how trends are set both online and in the real world but I got to touch base with alot of people whom I have not seen in a long while.

2) Esquire Launch Party @ The Intermark

That is right Esquire Launched in Malaysia on Friday and it was an awesome party. What made it even better was that my cousin IZ was there as well among all my other friends from the industry. I just love meeting up with the old faces.

3)Kyoto Protocol's Performance in Barsonic @ Zouk, KL
That is right the band Kyoto Protocol was performing at Zouk with T.A.G. (Twighlight Action Girl) and it was totally rocking! The place was so packed with KPeepers (Kyoto Protocol fans) that there was hardly any room to breath. Not to mention the band gave an awesome performance with stage lighting and custom props for the stage. I liked how the made their stage look like a crime scene.

So far off the top my head those were the highlights of my week. Not to say those were the only things to happen... but you don't really wanna know about the boring stuff, do ya?

A call to the old world

I woke up at 3 today after getting less than 20 minutes of sleep yesterday. Surprising considering that last night I slept before twelve. I guess my body was really exhausted and sleeping like the dead was the best way it could regain back it's natural composure.

It's kind of funny because when I woke up I really did feel like I woke up from the dead. Like the character in the movie Dark City. It made me feel like asking are all the memories in my head planted? Am I on a evil space platform?

Anyways enough of the random mumbo jumbo talk. So I got to calling people which is what I do alot of now days with my own career, future record label work and managing a band. The reason because the band that I'm managing is in real need to a sound guy and guitar tech.

I actually called my old guitarist from The Velvet Aces. We spent a good few minutes talking about nothing. Now mind you my mind is in a fragile state of feeling like memories are implanted, so for a moment I felt like it was 2009 and I still had my band The Velvet Aces and I was calling him to arrange a time to go jamming. To be frank, I had almost asked him "dude... Free for jamming with the band?" . Thank god I didn't cause then I would have probably been seen as a little crazy. What an interesting call to the old world.

So now I'm online and checking my e-mails. My managers hard at work trying to get me jobs. So it seems I got to KIV a few Emcee jobs and it appears tomorrow I have an audition. Wow, I guess he's trying to get me to act. Nice :D

The day in a suit

So I spent most of the day in a suit. why? well lets just say My cousin IZ and I have been working on a proposal to start our own record label. So today we had a huge meeting with some really interesting people who holds our dreams in the palm of their hands.

I have to admit it even for someone like me who is built for presenting to millions, I was bloody nervous. I was so nervous that I barely had any sleep last night. Maybe twenty minutes tops.

During this meeting we had explained our ideas on how to market the record label and all the other aspects of running a business such as this. During our post mortem we felt that we did present our idea to the best of our abilities and even if don't get the funding (not to say we will stop trying) we could at least sleep well knowing we did our very best today.

I hope it does go through... it would mark a new chapter in my life.

Just woke up... at 1 in the afternoon

yup I spent the morning snoozing away. Hey what else do you do on a Saturday morning? I'm just two hours away from a client meeting and later on I'll be heading to the GBOB finals as an invited guest. So it looks like it's going to be a very active day.

Emily had messaged me like a billion messages in the morning. It's not that she purposely wanted to do that but I think I had messaged her a billion and two messages at 3am in the morning. We were chatting and it was a pretty hot gossip topic and I started asking all these silly questions. It's kind of funny how long sometimes it takes your mind to register what the SMS is in reply to. You wake up and like " what does LOL mean? what is she laughing at?" then boom your like oooooooh it's in reply to my joke about her ex-boyfriend or something.

Last night I had atteneded Pc.com Awards 2010 and it was a blast. It was the very first time I had been to an award where the nominations were for Best Speakers, Best Keyboard, Best Processor. Totally geek heaven. I admit in some ways I am a little bit of a geek. At least now I know what speakers and keyboards to get when I buy a desktop (which I'm considering since the loss of my laptop). I haven't uploaded any pictures of the event as it's with Julian my manager. Hope to place it up soon.

Oh dear it's 1:24! ok gotta get a bit to eat and get ready for that meeting. Note to self follow up with the Inspecter from the police station to follow up on the status of the guy who stole my laptop. Do you think it's wrong if I put his picture everywhere? So the whole world knows? A little mean I know but serves him right.

Life Unwired... It's terrible.

You never realize how wired the world has become until you are disconnected and you feel left out. If you've seen my Facebook and Twitter updates you would know that recently my laptop has been stolen and I am actively trying to chase the person down.

After spending close to two days looking at CCTV footage and aliasing with the police, this has finally become a police case. I am actually on the way right now as we speak heading to the police station. Thanks to my manager and good friend Julian, I am using his laptop now.

I realize that when I lost the laptop alot of people asked me to forget about it and move on. Can I ask why? When something is lost and there is a slim chance that you can find the guy who did it and make things happen why stop? Why give up?

It's so easy to give up but not easy to make things happen. I hope what I am doing now inspires you, the reader of my blog to not take hits. To stand up for yourself when someone brings you down. You control what happens around you, don't be the victim. If you lose anything or things aren't going great be proactive. No matter what people tell you, the limitations they supposedly claim to exist really don't exist at all.

People live their lives purposely limiting themselves, why should you?

Thank to everyone online, Readers of my Blog,Facebook and Twitter... you guys really do give me strength when I am down, for that I love you.

Grumpier than usual...

I feel that I've been going through a male version of PMS and maybe a little grumpier than usual.

I guess you can say it has to do a bit with the writers block I'm going through. Not fun spending hours on end trying to write song lyrics and all there is are 6 pages worthless scribbles. I can't help but to think some of the stuff I'm writing sounds cheesy. I blame commercial songs for polluting my head with mindless none sense hehehehe.

Aside from that, factors relating to my wedding plans have taken it's toll on my mind. Trying to make a perfect wedding is hard when you have a huge family. Everything seems to be very limited because catering for an event that can accommodate a billion people has lots of logistical issues like parking, would there be enough food for everyone issues and of course can the venue fit everyone and will everyone attend or am I wasting my time.

Wow, when I write it down it all feels better... God bless blogging. Although I find it funny that the things bothering my mind can all be summed up in two paragraphs. I would like to think that it would at least make two novels because that what it feels like in my head.

Oh well, it's 4:21AM in the morning and I tomorrow/today is going to be a long day. Will be on 8tv Nite Live too so gotta find a way to nap before the show so I don't look or feel tired. I wanna be hyperactive for you guys like always.

Woke up at Four today...

I'm not usually a "sleep all day" kind of person but I'm guessing since yesterday my good friend (and dang well good magician) went to the gym and really tortured ourselves.

I know going to the gym is not the same as torture, in fact it's supposed to be good for your health but what I felt was torture to me. So I guess my bodies a bit lethargic.

Thus were the first few thoughts of my lazy Saturday. I got a billion and one messages from Emily, my lovely fiance about how she's doing things on a Saturday and being a trillion times more active than me. I couldn't help but feel I missed a whole days worth of stuff... not sure what I would do but I'm sure it would have revolutionized something.

Spent another 20 minutes just checking my e-mail and nothing important seems to be in it. Alot of Junk mail though. The amount of Junk mail that comes into my mail box is amazing! I swear i'd get all excited like "Oh my God I have 10 e-mails!" thinking that 10 people really want to get in touch with me and find that at least 9 of it is some crap for some service I cancelled half a year ago saying "Oh you left us but hey it's ok cause here is a package to make you wanna join us again! dot dot dot smiley face "

I wish I could see the person who wrote that in person and I'll probably lay down the People's elbow on his Jabroni ass just for being so annoying. Yes, I am using the lines from The Rock... hey it's cool and it fits any situation that you wanna lay a Smack Down.

By the way something off topic... you know that The Rock is back in Wrestling right?

Free Plug for the Rock!

So then got a few calls from a band I'm managing and it's some small stuff, nothing major.

Here I am on a lazy Saturday... just sitting on my bed and blogging. You know maybe I should just rest... that's what I'm meant to do maybe.

How is your Saturday?

GRAAAAAAHH!!!

I rarely get mad at people, But something happened earlier today that just really pushed my buttons.

Have you ever have people trying to meddle with something they shouldn't be meddling with in your life? Ruining all your best made plans.

The gull of some, if only people like that could just leave me alone.

Have you ever been so mad?

The Song that has been stuck in my head FOR DAYS!!!!

It has happened to everyone I'm sure. That feeling where you have this song stuck in your head and your singing it everywhere you go. The kind of singing where your friends are like " Dude... this is a library and your screaming the lyrics out!"

Yeah I've got that. Like a contagious flu virus I've been singing this song over and over again... not sure If I'm trying to get the pitch right or what my main intention is. All i know... I can't stop singing it.

Here is the song

Yes it's an old song... and yes it's been a long time since I heard it last... But good songs never die :D

Chinese New Year is here!

I have to admit, I love the fact that in Malaysia we have two New Years. The Western and the Chinese one. Since today is the new year of the rabbit, I decided to see what the year has in store for a Tiger like me.

I googled and came across a site called www.moonslipper.com and here is what it said.

The Tiger
Magnetic, passionate and grand! When the Tiger does anything, it’s noticed! Indecisiveness and stubbornness can mar the sparkle of the Tiger personality. On the one hand generous, on the other hand a little mean, it’s sometimes hard to know where one stands with the Tiger. Flexible, honest and truly entertaining, one has a friend for life with a Tiger.

Forecast for 2011 Most Tigers will be feeling quite pleased and energized at the end of their own year in 2010. The Year of the Rabbit will be another positive year for them. Romantic matters are particularly to the forefront, with many born under this sign deciding to get married or to take the relationship to the next level. Single Tigers will have many chances to meet a partner with June to September particularly well aspected. If they have faced recent personal trials and tribulations, 2011 will prove to be a much brighter year. Financially, the Tiger will most likely see an increase in income, either due to a pay rise or an unexpected windfall. With careful planning and budgeting, they can enjoy this monetary increase whilst easing financial burdens. Hobbies and outdoor pursuits will also interest the Tiger this year and will provide relaxation and a social setting, both of which will suit him just fine. Travel and spending holidays with friends will be a focus during late spring and also August and September. If there is a dream location he’s always wanted to visit, this is the perfect year to do so! A house purchase or change of home could very well feature on the cards also. This will be an exciting rather than overly stressful development and Tigers should thrive in their new environment.

Interesting Tiger Facts:
Zodiac Stone: Sapphire
Special Flower: Violet
Best Hours: 3-5 am
Season: Winter
Horoscope Colors: Green, Blue, Yellow
What I loved most about this little article from the site is that it says for Tigers the Best hours are 3am-5am!! That's so totally true!

Evolution of the Zombie... In Movies

You may have your own opinions on the between the lines meaning of zombies movies. That they may reflect the consumerist nature of our society and that the spread of the zombie virus is similar to the effects of viral marketing. This post is not about that... in fact it is about the evolution of the zombies in zombie movies that I have noticed since... well, the day I started watching zombie movies.

Here is what I have noticed:

1) Zombies were the dead brought to life by Magic or Voodoo, once upon a time

This was of course based on the West African legend that a corpse can be brought back to life by a witch doctor or sorcerer. Apparently even the word Zombie came from the word Nzambi which means 'god'. Stating that the corpse was more like a Evil vampire god rather than a mindless automaton of flesh.

And the Movie the Evil Dead was the movie based on my recollection that stayed true to this mythological portrayal of the Undead.

2)Zombies then evolved to the product of a virus

The ever popular mode of resurrection. It's so easy to say some secret experiment had caused the world to become mindless eating machines because we know how viruses can evolve and that there is so much still yet to be discovered in the world of viruses. Making the perfect believable cliche´.

This concept apparently started off in such movies as Night of the living dead, Dawn of the dead and other zombie movies of the 80's. So from mythological magic to contagious viruses.

Oh yeah Hollywood also borrowed the contagious bite from Vampires and Werewolves. So it's triumvirate now of contagious evil, because it is so much cooler to know that you too can be evil willingly... or unwillingly.

3)Zombies are smarter

A concept explored a bit in Dawn of the Dead was that zombies retained memories from their living past. Thus making them a more cunning enemy. As well Zombies no longer attack at random but do so in groups proving that two heads (or a million heads) are better than one.

4) Zombies can run!!!!

That's right Zombies are not only smarter but they can run! No longer are they limited to lumbering slowly towards you in hopes that you will be dumb enough not to notice a rotting corpse walk towards wanting to slurp on some brain matter. They not only run but because they feel no pain they run like an Olympic 100 meter dash runner all day long!!

This concept was first introduced based on my movie knowledge in 28 Days Later. Where the zombies were not only hungry... but pissed off!! Excuse my American lingo.

This variant of the zombie, the fast running, cunning and amazingly angry Zombie is so popular that even the Resident Evil Franchise which was based on a video game (also known as Biohazard in Japan) which originally had the slow zombie turned their zombies into the fast ones. I mean do remember just running through the Zombies when you ran out of Ammo? or at least saving your machine gun and shotgun rounds for the final boss? Yup those were the original resident evil zombies. The fastest it ever moved was when i was less that an inch away from you and it toppled over like Old Man river slipping on a rock trying to grab you.

In conclusion, (really? does this post need one?) I think in terms of filming time and for creating Drama sake, The fast moving Zombie has become the final incarnation of Zombies so far. Thus making everything seem on a daggers edge and that the heroes just barely survived. If you ask me which one I like? Of course the fast Zombies!! It makes playing Left 4 Dead a heck of a lot cooler :D Although if a Zombiocolypse ever happens... I'd like the slower dumb ones...and a shotgun.

The Bed Intruder

Do you know the story of the bed intruder? You don't? or maybe you do but it has been awhile and that's ok. Because today is about the evolution of the internet sensation known as the Bed Intruder.

In the beginning, Antoine Dodson gave a rather unique interview to local new stations about a rapist whom had intruded into the bedroom of his sister Kelly and tried to rape her but due to some intervention the rapist ran. Which lead to the video becoming a youtube sensation.

Ladies and Gentleman, Exhibit A:

Then The Gregory Brothers appeared into the fray and created an even more unique song which believe or not reached number 89 on the Billboard Top 100! Not bad for an internet song.

Ladies and Gentleman, Exhibit B:

Now, Something Strange had happened... The song Bed Intruder has become so popular that even the hot lead singer of Paramour couldn't resist doing a cover.

Behold the latest incarnation! Bed Intruder cover done by Haley Williams (Paramour),Jordan Pundik (New Found Glory), and Ethan Luck (ReliantK,John Davis):

I can't believe that it has been 25 years since I came into the this world naked, crying and gasping for air.

hmmm... a quarter of a century has passed by and I would like to thank everyone who has been there for me. To friends and family, and  to the new friends I've yet to meet a very big hug and lots of love :D

What Happens if you sleep with your make up on... seriously.

This is completely random... so what happens when you sleep with your make up on? I found a video on youtube that says... nothing. No seriously, watch it for yourself :D

I love Japanese Movies!!!!

It's crazy I know but I have to admit that I am a softy for Japanese movies and manga. It has been a long while since I've watched an anime, watched a Japanese movie or read a manga but it seemed today the feeling has been rekindled.

What happened was earlier this morning I was at my grandparents house for the passing of my grandfather. My cousins were all there and upon waking up we watched this South Korean/Japanese movie entitled Virgin Snow.

I was really captivated by the story line and the actors... more in actual fact the actress who played the lead role of Nanae. Her name was Aoi Miyazaki. She's a popular actress in Japan and funny enough I've never heard of her or seen her work til today.

The first thing that caught my attention was how this Japanes actress really looked like Malaysia's very own Siti Nurhaliza. Behold exhibit A:

Aoi Miyazaki:

Dato' Siti Nurhaliza (or at least when she was younger):

They roughly have the same features. Never mind that's not important.

So continuing on! I decided to Wiki all the actors and actresses and I came across another Movie that Aoi Miyazaki acted in called Nana, based on the manga of the same name.

I had just finished watching it and all I got to say is... I totally loved it!

The story is about two girls named Nana who's paths crossed serendipitously and they became housemates and through their friendship they find their dreams and romance... not with each other mind you, it's not that kind of a story.

Never the less, this story touched my heart in so many ways in it's story and the believable chemistry between the two main actresses that I would recommend anyone trying to find their way through life to watch this movie.
It will move you.

P.s. If you were a fan of the movie Death Note, then you'd be very surprised to find the actor that played L is in this movie too :D

Investing like Warren Buffet.

One of the few things I like to do that very few people know about is read up on investment tips or learn how the stock market works and even read up on famous investors to see how they invest in stock in hopes that maybe one day I'll follow in their foots steps... or follow in their account books to be quite frank.

After reading About Warren Buffet, I actually watched a couple of videos on youtube about him. As you can tell watching video interviews is a billion times more fun and mentally stimulating than reading text. So here are a few videos of his views on how to choose stock or how he would choose a stock to buy.

After further video searching I actually found a video where a guy actually broke down Warren Buffet's Investment strategy or what he considers when buying a stock into an easy to understand formula.

If for some reason you can't see the video (like your in the office and you got no headphones) but you wanna know the formula so you can make tons of money (If the formula does work) it's :

MOST Value
-------------------------------
LEAST Price

Value= Net Earnings+Dividends

Price= Price-to-book (meaning the price of total shares or how much it would cost if you were to buy the whole company)

And the reason behind it or at least what I got from the video is that the more net earnings (or retained earnings) a company keeps the more the company would expand thus the value of the stock will expand while dividends means more money in your pocket to invest in more stocks.

I really hope this information helps you in some really awesome way.

What can this formula be used for? Good question and this is merely my opinion (you can tell me yours in the comment box below)

I think you can use it obviously when your looking for a good stock to invest in that would have good returns in the future.

Secondly, I'd say when you are analyzing Mutual Funds or Unit Trusts (as they would be call it here in Malaysia) and see which Mutual Fund or Unit Trusts have the best return. Never let the pretty bank person convince you blindly. Always ask what stock the Unit Trust is investing in then go home. If they don't know (which whenever I ask they tend not to know and give me general answers) you can always google it. If you can't find the answer... well the risk is up to you :)

Thirdly, If your a stock broker and you trying to find the best deals for your clients. Well it's pretty obvious this might help you give good advice.

So that's my take on the formula. Remember if you make tons of money with this formula, don't forget to buy me a drink :P If you got great advice too, do let me know. I wanna learn :)

Working on my website and wedding plans

It seems alot of things are happening within the first few weeks of 2011. First of all I've been investing alot of time in recording my music and completing my website and making it the best within my abilities. If you wanna critic it and tell me what you think here is the link www.moenasrul.com

I've also considered the possibility of doing my online promotion on reverberation.com as well. But I tell you trying to figure out all the reverbnation stuff is like trying to figure out a maze. However it is a good maze, a maze that gives you most of the things you want. A good portion of which I'm wondering if i could implement on website.

Now the other big thing in my life. Wedding. Oh yes, Now is the time to call venues and book them before other brides and grooms to be steal the date away. First for most my beautiful bride to be and I have chosen the dates of 11 and 18 December. The first date will be done in Penang which is here side of the family and the second would be to the place I've made my base, KL.

Still discussing the finer details and I've planned by next week to have a finished guest list. To close family and friends don't worry your already on the list :)

Spartacus: Blood and Sand Workout

If you have noticed that I've gotten skinner and a bit more lean during my time on 8tv nite live the asnwer is yes I have been working out.

Not that I'm vain or anything it's just that for the past year my workout has been focused on losing weight and keeping toned. Now I wanna try getting ripped!

Now don't get me wrong, I ain't going for the Arnold Schwarzenegger (yes I had to google his name make sure I spelled it right) bulk. I aim going more for the Gladiatorial look. Meaning I have the bulk but it's a purposeful bulk. You see sometimes when people work out based on what I've read they develop muscles that look good but provide no real use at all. Meaning the look tough but can barely touch their knees. the muscles I'm going for are the type that makes me look like I've been wrestling a lion for weeks. Case in point.

So now that I have the general idea in mind and since it is the first workout week for me for 2011. I have done my research and came across a pretty helpful video. You guys might wanna try it. Apparently the workout is effective but a real A**kicker.

All I gotta say is wish me luck.
