Hari Raya Celebrations in Melaka

Having not celebrated Hari Raya last year i was very exicited to be able to celebrate it this year :D For those who aren't familiar with the Hari Raya Adilfitri celebrations, well imagine it's something like Christmas or Thanksgiving where you have huge feasts and family gatherings! Really something to look forward too every year.

This year was really different in a sense that my mom and my aunties had organised a festival like event where there was a a huge BBQ pit cooking everything from fresh steak to Satay (run by manly of the manly cousins) and we even had one of my Aunty make her famous spaghetti and meatballs!

Aside from the amazing amounts of food that had caused me to gain some serious 'poundage' we had a karaoke singing competition as well as other game events which included a Q&A session where i learned for the first time how old my grandmother was and when she was born (she was born waaaaaaaayyy before War War II !!!!!!!) and that all together my aunties, uncles, cousins and their husband/wife plus their kids totalled to more than 62 people and that is just a rough estimate! No wonder the family house in Kampung Musai, Melaka is always crowded and this year it was so crowded that a few families which included my own had to stay at the hotel near the kampung. There seriously was no room available at the family house! For next Hari Raya my mom was suggesting maybe us younger generation family members (meaning from the age of a few months to 28 years of age) should do a camp out on the family land, camp fire and all. Now i can't wait for next year cause seriously it would be like a whole army platoon camping out in the star filled night!

All in all i had a great time and this year i really got to know my family better and it's scary how each year everyone grows up just a bit more. Imagine seeing a cousin who's a baby in your head turning out to be now a 11 year old kicking and screaming monster who jumps on you at every opportunity. True Story.

Well anyways to everyone, Selamat Hari Raya Adilfitri or Ed Mubarak:D
