Another Day in the life of moe nasrul. I write this from my bed with heavy eye lids wanting to close from a full day of running around and meetings.
So far I have been insanely busy and when I mean insanely busy it is really busy. So busy that I can't remember when was the last time I was ever this busy. I mean hey my day just ended at four in the morning.
So what am I doing you might ask? Well for starters I've been trying to start up a series of gigs at a cafe lounge called Laila's at Plaza Kelana Jaya. Basically trying to get a unit music scene coming up and hopefully bring our music scene to the next level. My target is to do two months of acoustic gigs just to get the ball rolling before transitioning fully into electric. Lotta planning and meeting.
If you wanna find out more about, check out www.moenasrul.com/tlp.cfm
Another is that I am working on a few projects where I am to produce two tv shows which would be direct to mobile phones. Can't really disclose much but what I can say is, it's pretty much my debut into the world of producing shows.
Another is of courses managing artists and so far I have one band Kyoto protocol, Sashi C Loco of poetic ammo fame and Iz currently with me. I have also started a brand new company called Talent Harvestw Sdn Bhd to be the vehicle to which I will be promoting these artists.
Further more, I have my usual array of voice overs and tv shows to which I host. Day by day it is. Moving forward in the most amazing of ways.
That's all I so far in my life at this point of time. Exhausted, sleepy and also wanting to tell someone about it, I write this post. A little diary of sorts online... Which is kind of ironic as a diary is supposed to be private but a blog is as private as a parrot being a horse... Or some bad analogy like that.
Oh well til next time, night night.

The Highlights of My Week
Maybe it's waking up at 3:27 in the morning and being fully awake has made me reflect in the dark about all the great things to have happened the past week. So I've decided to do a little list of all the highlights that had happened in my life that is worth mentioning... so definitely there will be no mundane stuff like "OMG! I discovered a new washing detergent that makes my white shirts extra white!", no matter how true it is.
1) Launch of Stylekandi!
This one I got to thank a good friend of mine and a talented musician Gael Oliveres for inviting me to the Press Conference. Not only did I get a glimpse at a website that would revolutionize how trends are set both online and in the real world but I got to touch base with alot of people whom I have not seen in a long while.
2) Esquire Launch Party @ The Intermark
That is right Esquire Launched in Malaysia on Friday and it was an awesome party. What made it even better was that my cousin IZ was there as well among all my other friends from the industry. I just love meeting up with the old faces.
3)Kyoto Protocol's Performance in Barsonic @ Zouk, KL
That is right the band Kyoto Protocol was performing at Zouk with T.A.G. (Twighlight Action Girl) and it was totally rocking! The place was so packed with KPeepers (Kyoto Protocol fans) that there was hardly any room to breath. Not to mention the band gave an awesome performance with stage lighting and custom props for the stage. I liked how the made their stage look like a crime scene.
So far off the top my head those were the highlights of my week. Not to say those were the only things to happen... but you don't really wanna know about the boring stuff, do ya?

A call to the old world
I woke up at 3 today after getting less than 20 minutes of sleep yesterday. Surprising considering that last night I slept before twelve. I guess my body was really exhausted and sleeping like the dead was the best way it could regain back it's natural composure.
It's kind of funny because when I woke up I really did feel like I woke up from the dead. Like the character in the movie Dark City. It made me feel like asking are all the memories in my head planted? Am I on a evil space platform?
Anyways enough of the random mumbo jumbo talk. So I got to calling people which is what I do alot of now days with my own career, future record label work and managing a band. The reason because the band that I'm managing is in real need to a sound guy and guitar tech.
I actually called my old guitarist from The Velvet Aces. We spent a good few minutes talking about nothing. Now mind you my mind is in a fragile state of feeling like memories are implanted, so for a moment I felt like it was 2009 and I still had my band The Velvet Aces and I was calling him to arrange a time to go jamming. To be frank, I had almost asked him "dude... Free for jamming with the band?" . Thank god I didn't cause then I would have probably been seen as a little crazy. What an interesting call to the old world.
So now I'm online and checking my e-mails. My managers hard at work trying to get me jobs. So it seems I got to KIV a few Emcee jobs and it appears tomorrow I have an audition. Wow, I guess he's trying to get me to act. Nice :D

The day in a suit
So I spent most of the day in a suit. why? well lets just say My cousin IZ and I have been working on a proposal to start our own record label. So today we had a huge meeting with some really interesting people who holds our dreams in the palm of their hands.
I have to admit it even for someone like me who is built for presenting to millions, I was bloody nervous. I was so nervous that I barely had any sleep last night. Maybe twenty minutes tops.
During this meeting we had explained our ideas on how to market the record label and all the other aspects of running a business such as this. During our post mortem we felt that we did present our idea to the best of our abilities and even if don't get the funding (not to say we will stop trying) we could at least sleep well knowing we did our very best today.
I hope it does go through... it would mark a new chapter in my life.

Rina Omar's Tiger show
The Malayan Tiger is a nationalistic treasure and in endanger of being extinct. What happens once the Malayan Tiger is gone? Well I think a really good friend of mine Rina Omar can tell you in this video:
This is all part of the TX2 campaign by WWF that aims to double the Malayan Tiger population and they are looking for a celebrity to lead it! Of course very democratically they want us the public to vote for the celebrity and based on this video I'll vote Rina Omar and so should you :D

Jamie Oliver's food revolution
Another night of internet surfing after finishing 8tv Night Live had lead me to stumble across something very interesting.
I'm sure we all have heard of Jamie Oliver the chef who has a cooking show that helps us, the not so talented cook make something really decent to impress our friends, family or maybe even that hot girl your trying to get on good terms with. Then came the show where Jamie Oliver went on a little crusade to help kids in schools eat better because of the junk that the school menus are filled with.
For those of you guys that have never experienced school lunches outside of Malaysia, In the UK and USA the school food is standardized and basically unlike canteens here at your schools you don't really have much choice of what food to eat and most of the food are unhealthy burgers, Pizzas and other fast food junk. In Malaysia from what I've seen is that we have a much healthier choice of food believe it or not filled with more greens, veggies and fruits mostly in the form of fruits with asam powder or rojak which are lacking in western schools. At least we know that food wise we might be ahead of the curve.
Anyways back to point, obesity among children is a big issue in the USA and UK and I never realized this until one of mom's professor friend from the USA came to visit us a few years back and commented that children here in Malaysia look like "real" children. I of course asked "what do you mean? Are the kids in the USA some kind of freaky alien hybrid?" as you can see I've always had my wit and weird sense of humor since ever. He replied that out of every five kids four would be severely over weight. At that point of time it never really meant anything to me and I just laughed and was slightly (ok very) proud how our Asian kids look way better than American kids. Now it seems the problem is being addressed by Jamie Oliver and he has set out on a mission to Washington with a million signatures to support his cause.
check out this video from Ryan Seacrests Youtube channel:
P.s. Yes I grew up in the states and yes I was a fat kid too at one point of time. But I gotta thank my parents for forcing me to do sports and mostly cooking Malaysian food at home :D thanks Umi and Abi (that's what I call my parents)

No Barbie Girl in this one...
I was discussing music with a good friend Tarachin a few days back and she had told me Aqua the band known for that infectious and memorable song known as the Barbie Girl song has come out with a new song.
I looked at her weirdly like "ok why would we be discussing Aqua?" she then told me that she was shocked that they had completely reinvented themselves and they sound darker....and well... hear it for yourself...Let me know if you found it as socking as I did :D

An article about VIMA...
Hey guys and gals,
There I came across another article about VIMA 2010 for you guys to read from NST.
MALAYSIA’S independent music scene is not one to be scoffed at.
Despite the continuous complaints of a lack of support for our homegrown artistes, our underground musicians are thriving on passion for their art.
That much was proven last Sunday, at the Voize Independent Music Awards, held at The Mist, Bangsar, KL. The show was slated to start at 7.30pm and guests, media, VIPs, judges and musicians all trooped in, ready to rock.
Aptly themed “Indiecent”, the night kicked off with beatboxing from Kraft, MC Vandal and Young Stunna; whose Daft Punk-esque stylings elicited roars from the crowd.
Poseidon Connection then took to the stage, amping us all up energetic guitar riffs and freakin’ cool vocals. Apparently at VIMA, “mother” is only half a word.
The MCs for the night were C Loco, Moe Nasrul and the lovely Adrea Abdullah, who kept us informed and entertained with their wacky one-liners. "

Hannah Tan's Charity Concert at Gardens Mid Valley.
On Sunday, I was invited to attend Hannah Tan's Live Concert at Gardens Ballroom Mid Valley by Leonard who is part of Hannah's Management and the is also the guitarist of An Honest Mistake.
Beat Boxer Shawn Lee was also there Along with Erin his manager.
And it was the first time I got to see Dennis Lau the violinist perform Live!!
That and the concert was filled with star studded Guests
As well as there was an Illusionist in our ranks making things disappear and then reappear in all the places where you'd never thought an ace of spades could appear out of.
It was also the first time I saw Harith Iskandar do stand up and play the guitar! To a comical blues song of course.
It was also great that I got to meet the people who belong to the world of blogging. Like Dusthawk.com, Angelkein.blogspot.com, Shaz, and many others.
All in all it was an awesome event.

Howling at the New Moon

In the beginning... I didn't want to get into the Twilight craze. I didn't wanna be among the so "gaga over how cool the movie was" type people or be among the guys wishing they were a vampire because all the girls are saying how amazingly good looking Edward (Robert Pattinson) was and blah blah blah so on an so forth.
Until I watched Twilight for myself. I admit it was more out of curiosity than anything else because i was like what is everyone jumping for joy about? I confess that when I had finally watched Twilight that I... became a fan (this is where I run to the corner and cry profusely wondering exactly where my manliness has gone)

And not so long ago... my favorite topic on Fly's Fm Buzz Central back in the days of Radio News Presenting was how girls all over world were going head over heels over Taylor Lautner and his new buff look in the trailer to the point that poor Rob. P. was blown out of the water ( thats cause he had his shirt off running through the woods isn't it girls!!!)
I confess...I am really excited about the New Moon Movie coming out and really can't wait to see it. Why? Definitely not for Taylor Lautner but because I have always been in love with the whole vampire mythos ever since I picked up reading Anne Rice Novels. That and the Werewolves vs Vampire element that I think is super-uber cool ever since I played Vampire:the Masquerade and seeing it come to life in the Underworld movies, will be present in the movie. I mean seriously it is hard to find a seriously good Werewolves vs Vampire movie.
It's going to be more interesting in New Moon I feel because not only would the Werewolves and Vampires go head to head as a species but also it seems that a Vampire and a Werewolf is fighting for the love of one human woman. It's interesting to see this wicked love triangle in action and I admit it's a brilliant take on the age old rivalry.
In Short, I'll be watching the movie just look for the guy wearing a hoodie and sunglasses trying to cover his face with a big tub of buttered popcorn.

My Facebook Fan Page is up :D

That's write ladies and gents I've joined the ranks of the people that have a fan page! Now honestly why did I start a fan page on Facebook?
First and foremost Facebook being the one of the best social network out there it makes perfect sense. Why a fan page now? well it all started when Mike Campton told me on 8TV Nite Live that he had started a fan page. Obviously i thought it was vein and then after the show he told me about how it's great for people to come together and discuss the stuff that they love.
I was like OK. I love starting discussions and I do it all the time on my profile although unofficially. I was like why not create a fan page so that i could talk officially about the things I love and of course with the people that loves the same things. That and it would be a great way for me to share with you my latest artworks and of course the progress of my first debut album.
So add me up and lets get this party started!

A journey through my second brain...
It's funny how your phone ends up being almost like a second brain. A weird concept i know but if you think about it when you one day look through your phone and it's endless amount of pictures and notes you find that it brings back all kinds of memories. Just as a second brain would.
Here was what was in my second brain.
On the 15th til the 18th of October I had emceed Shojikiya's Japanese Food Fair at One Utama. the event included games and Japanese cultural performances suchas Wadaiko Drum performance, Soran Bushi folk dance and Rice Harvest Dance.

On the same day itself was the Indie Youth Festival 09, where they had a cyber games tournament specifically for the game of Counter Strike.

And much to my surprise a good friend of mine was hosting the Indie Gig for the Indie Youth Festival 09 none other than Rina Omar.

And I manage to catch performances by Dichi Michi...

and one of my favorite bands and close friends of mine, Bittersweet...

Loved how they came with neon colored sweaters and look very much like the beetles. very cool.
